The Dollhouse!

I finally gifted this to my daughter this weekend for her 3rd birthday. She really, really loves it. Whew! (for those of you who don't know, I made this a while ago out of scraps I found at the thrift store).

I made this for $0. I think somewhere at sometime I bought the elastic and the material, but it's been sitting in my closet for years. Sooo easy to make, too.

Make it Yourself

I don't really sew, but I'm learning a few things. I made this bumblebee costume from soft fleece I got at a discount at a fabric store. It probably cost $6 altogether, and it took time, so if you're not into sewing, just buy your costume discount. I just thought I'd throw this option out there.

Janie and Jack Dress

These little suckers are sooo expensive new. I drool over this store every time I pass it, but I never allow myself to go in, since to buy a t-shirt for your 2-year-old costs $36 (I'm not kidding--go to their site). Now, I don't have to! Found it for $1.99.

Funky Red Top

I never buy shirts like this, but I tried it out, and I loved it! And of course, only $1.25, since it was half price day at Volunteers of America.

Three Views, Three Items.

I'll be posting three different shots of the same outfit here to show the different items. Here, look closely at the earrings. Clip-ons and seriously gorgeous. The belt and ruffles are fun, too, and the shirt comes with deep pockets! (I love deep pockets. Not sure if they hold any fashion meaning--I just really like them).

Second shot--the ruffles are awesome, and the belt has a gold knob that clasps it together.

Not talking about pavement or karate here--I found the belt separately for $1 at the thrift store and the top for $3.50.

This is the dress I took in. I would wear this with a little shrug, but I wanted to show what it looked like by itself. So fun.

Engineer Hat

Fun to wear in the summer. Goes great with my Keds and yellow "grandma" earrings, too (also thrift finds).

Hair Cutting Book

I cut her hair myself. I found this hair cutting book at the thrift store and figured, "Hey, she's 2. She'll never remember how she was my little lab rat!" I did a little bob and a-lined it, just like the book said. Who says you only get clothes at the Goodwill?

Goodwill Girls at the Zoo!

We are all three wearing clothes from the goodwill. Can't see Seattle well, but she's decked out from top to bottom in 99 cent clothes. My earrings, top, capris, and shoes (you can't see) are all from the Goodwill.

Mustard Capris/Anthropologie Blue Top

Found it at Goodwill for $3.50. Feels like a Jane Austen dress at the top. Love it. PS A friend, Laurie, told me she owns the same one in brown and that it's from Anthropologie! She got it on sale for $40. Oh, yeah baby!

Garage sale find-$1. Also sporting my new Sofft heels. They're the best heels I've ever owned.

Antiquish Chairs

$5 at a garage sale. I think that's the point of summer--garage sale-ing. Hard to tell how cool these chairs are in the pic, but they were a steal.

Baseball Hat

I bought this for myself and realized (too late) that it was child-sized. Oh, well. It looks darling on her. Gotta love the painted "Fancy Nancy" nails (as she calls them)to go with it.

I don't know anything about this brand, either. They fit very well, they seem sturdy, and they were $3. If anyone knows about this brand, let me know:). Love 'em for a quick slip on in the summer.

Sofft Brand Shoes

I didn't know anything about this brand before I bought them, but new (and these were nearly that) they run from $50-$110+. I got them for $8.

Yes, both thrift store, and yes, each for under $2. The shoes are a gift from Granny.

Anna, my thrifting friend

So she walked into the room, and she looked so cute I had to ask, "Where did you get your outfit?" She was pretty proud of herself when she said, "Actually, at the thrift store." She is my "guest" feature today.

The shirt was $3.50 (Express brand), and the skirt was $3.50. I LOVE the skirts at thrift stores. For some reason, they're usually in better condition than the pants.

This little number was brand new for 99 cents. She's such a porker, she probably won't fit in it for long, but it was a must-grab.

$1.99. I love Levi's--seriously one of the best brands out there.

Polka-Dot Dress

Okay, this is not technically a thrift store find, and it did cost $20 (waaaay over my budget), but I found it at the last minute (after a day of searching) for my sister's wedding. I needed a black and white dress, and I was determined that for this wedding, I would go dressed to kill. See, the last three weddings I've attended, I've been pregnant. Yeah, not so sexy. And I'm not really trying to impress anyone (well, okay, of course I want Brock to check me out), but I wanted to look polished for once instead of like a basketball with arms and legs. I was pretty proud of this Ross find, since I got it the day before the wedding! The girls dresses were $2 each. I'll explain that one in my next Tip of the Day.

Wedding Cake

Not something I usually post, but I had to put this in here. The bottom tiers are hat boxes, and the top is cake with "hat" pins and tulle on top. It cost a grand total of $30. Yes, a wedding cake. My sister served cheese cake instead of wedding cake at the reception, but no one complained. My mom made the cake part herself.

B.O.B. double jogger

My husband found this at a garage sale for $30. They normally go for $570 new. The handle is a bit worn, but it's in great condition!

Leather Jacket

Found it for . . . you guessed it: $4. Goes with every color. One of my best finds.

Target again. $4.

These are actually a clearance Target find for $2.

White cotton summer shirt

Goodwill, all the way. Yes, under $4 (Ignore the geeky pose--I never know how to stand for pictures).

Wedding Dress

Yes, you read the title correctly--my little sister found her WEDDING DRESS at the Goodwill for $80. She split the cost with my other sister, so her dress cost a grand total of 40 bucks. She took the cake last week on thrift (no pun intended).

Bridal Shoes

My sister found these at PayLess for under $10. She wore them for her wedding day!

Maternity Christmas Dress

The red, lace lined sweater is a hand-me-down. The black dress is a thrift store find for under $4.

Blue Suede Shoes

These look a bit worn, since I've had them for 3 years. But I bought them almost new for under $4

Mustard Sweater

Everything--sweater, earrings, pants, and shoes (see corresponding picture) is from a thrift store. The only exception is the shirt, which I bought at a Family Dollar store for $7.
